The East Kootenay Regional Science Fair works to promote scientific interests and experiential opportunities for East Kootenay students.
Vision
To be successful in its mission, the East Kootenay Regional Science Fair works to have East Kootenay students excited and engaged in scientific inquiry.
Beliefs
The East Kootenay Regional Science Fair was established and conducts its day to day activities based on the following set of beliefs:
- Equal opportunities for all students in the East Kootenay region.
- Experiential learning is more engaging than text learning.
- It takes a scientific community to raise a scientist.
- Every child can succeed with the proper support.
- To invest in our youth now, will benefit our region in the future.
- Science Education should be a fun, creative and engaging process.
Goals
To achieve the mission and the vision hereto laid out, the East Kootenay Regional Science Fair will work to achieve the following goals:
- To promote, organize and administer an annual regional science fair for students Kindergarten to Grade 12.
- To assist schools in establishing their own science fairs.
- To motivate and assist East Kootenay students in pursuing project-based science.
- To increase science fair participation in the East Kootenays
- To foster relationships between students, educators, local industries and local scientists.
- To encourage students to choose careers in science-related careers.
- To recognize & value scientific achievement
- To maintain affiliation with Science Fair Foundation of British Columbia (SFFBC) and Youth Science Canada (YSC) to provide further opportunities to East Kootenay students.
- To build and maintain relationships with East Kootenay Regional Science Fair (EKRSF) partners who can include but are not limited to science industries, crown corporations, and local businesses.
